The title of this blog is a truism in many areas of service from the military to police to firemen. As another famous quote that agrees with this is “do a 1000 things right but thing one wrong and the wrong is what people remember and focus on, throwing out the rest, no matter how much good was done”. I do not like to dab into the world of politics but try to stay neutral, (remember ‘I’m a fireman, not a Doctor’) however I like to make analagies and comparisons so what is presently occurring so it can be better understood by us ‘laymen’. The recent turmoil of political strife concerning the second impeachment of President Trump is a screaming example of the quotes mentioned above. From his inauguration there was opposition. Sharks in the political waters searching for the smell of blood to attack, tear and destroy. Was President Trump perfect? According to the Bible (if you believe it’s inspired wisdom) at Romans 3:23 ‘All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God’. So again I ask, was President Trump perfect. No way. But how much good did he do the list is admirably much longer than his faults. But the sharks constantly on the prowl only saw his faults or smelled the blood from his wounds, highlighting them and wiping out all his good. What the next administration does remains to be seen. The turmoil also added by non political factions which compounded this strife must also be mentioned, since it also reminds me of the biblical prophecy of the clay mixed with iron which make up the feet of a great statue of varied metals that eventually topples. This was written centuries ago by the Hebrew prophet Daniel in the Bible book named after him in chapter-2. The iron represents the governments strength which is weakened by the clay like factions of people who resist it’s authority and weaken it. Am I writing this to be a preacher? Maybe. You can decide. But when I learned of this prophecy it made a lot of sense. However I won’t preach any more about this for now. But remember we are all only as good as our last fire in man’s eyes, but not in God’s. He doesn’t forget a person’s track record. He knows all fall short of his glory. The lesson here? When one falls, one must get up and keep fighting. Like Bruce Waynes father said to the young Bruce, who had fallen into a well and broken his leg in the 2005 movie ‘Batman Begins’: ‘Why do we fall Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up’.We’re all imperfect. So when we fall. Get up, shake the dust off and keep on fighting to do what is right and live life to the fullest and honorably.
